The lovely library was filled with the gentle fragrance of old books and sandalwood. Sunlight streamed softly through the windows, falling across the family-tree manuscripts and photographs carefully arranged on the table.
The students settled into their seats, their voices echoing cheerfully among the shelves.
Sarah:
“Good morning, everybody! 🌅 Are there any more fascinating updates?”
Sarah:
“We wish we knew how Mr. Phuddar—sorry, Mr. Kanthar—was devoted to God!”
Teacher:
“What an inspiring question, Sarah!”
He smiled and turned towards an old photograph.
“He had installed the sacred symbol of Lord Murugan in a beautiful building, almost like a traditional wedding hall.”
Mary:
“But who was responsible for all that, sir?”
Teacher:
“Sorry, Sarah?”
Sarah:
“There were so many commitments, weren’t there?”
She paused thoughtfully.
“It’s… it’s rather like a marriage, isn’t it, sir?”
Teacher:
“Could you explain that, Mary?”
Mary:
“In marriage life, there are many, many years of commitment…”
She smiled.
“In other words, responsibilities!”

Teacher:
“Fascinating question, Meera.
“Let us accept one of the greatest spiritual principles: the Divine is not limited by the external form through which people approach Him.
“Lord Jesus taught a profound principle about the value of the soul over worldly possessions:
‘What is the point of gaining the whole world while losing the soul?’”
The students became silent.
Sarah:
“What exactly is the soul, sir?”
Teacher:
“The soul is the living spiritual essence within every living being—the conscious self, originating from the Supreme Creator.
“Therefore, the outer form of worship should not become an excuse for hatred or division.”
Sam:
“Then why are there so many divisions in devotion, sir?”
Teacher:
“Because human beings cannot understand everything immediately!
“Can we expect a child to receive a PhD before even attending primary school?”
The students burst into laughter.
Students:
“Wowww! Wowww!”
Teacher:
“Spiritual understanding also develops gradually.
“We learn, we question, we experience, and eventually we begin to understand.”
Mary:
“What a wonderful devotional tutorial!
“So, the reason Seethapathy Gurukal was chosen was because he was an adequately qualified and respected priest?”
Teacher:

The fragrance of sandalwood seemed to linger in the quiet library as the students looked again at the old family photographs.

“Evidence, sir?”
Teacher:
“I can show you a photograph of one of my brothers who has remarkably similar features to Kanthar.”
Sarah:
“Are you going to share that same photograph?”
Teacher:
“No.
“That particular brother looked more like Sapapathipillai, one of the younger brothers.
“The photograph I am referring to is of the elder brother.”
Mary:
“Could you share the photograph of him with his wife, please? 🙏”
Teacher:
“Certainly!”
He carefully lifted the old photograph from the family-tree collection.
For a moment, everyone became still.
The faces from another generation seemed to speak without words. The students looked closely at the photograph, while the teacher gently explained the connection between the people, the place, the temple and the traditions that had shaped their lives.
Teacher:
“This is why our Family Tree is not merely a collection of names and dates.
“It is a living story.
“We can see the faces of our ancestors,
hear the stories passed down through generations,
touch the precious old photographs and documents,
smell the sandalwood and flowers associated with devotion,
and even taste the sacred prasadam that reminds us that food offered with love becomes part of our spiritual experience.
“When all five senses participate in learning, history becomes alive.
“And when knowledge is joined with devotion, the Family Tree becomes more than genealogy—it becomes a journey towards understanding who we are.”
The students smiled.
Students:
“Sure, sir! ❤️”
Teacher:
“Then let us continue our journey, dear students—not merely to discover where our ancestors came from, but to understand what values they carried with them.
“That is the real treasure hidden inside our Family Tree.”

அழகிய நூலகம் பழைய புத்தகங்களின் மணமும் சந்தனத்தின் இனிய நறுமணமும் கலந்த அமைதியில் இருந்தது. ஜன்னல்கள் வழியாக வந்த சூரிய ஒளி, மேசையின் மீது கவனமாக வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த குடும்ப மரக் குறிப்புகளையும் பழைய புகைப்படங்களையும் மென்மையாகத் தொட்டது.
மாணவர்கள் தங்கள் இருக்கைகளில் அமர்ந்தனர். அவர்களின் மகிழ்ச்சியான குரல்கள் நூலகத்தின் புத்தக அலமாரிகளுக்கிடையே இனிமையாக எதிரொலித்தன.
சாரா:

“நினைவில் வைத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்—கந்தர்மடம் என்பது ஓர் இடத்தின் பெயர். அது ஒரு பெயர்ச்சொல்; அந்த நகரத்தின் பெயர்.
“அவர் எடுத்துரைத்த புனித ஞானம் வேத மற்றும் புராண மரபுகளிலிருந்து வந்தது; குறிப்பாக முருகப்பெருமானைப் பற்றிய கந்தபுராணம் அதில் முக்கியமானது.”

“ஐயா, அதை இன்னும் விளக்க முடியுமா? இறைவனைப் பற்றிய அடிப்படைத் தத்துவங்கள் என்ன?”
ஆசிரியர்:
“அற்புதமான கேள்வி, மீரா.
“மிக உயர்ந்த ஆன்மிகக் கருத்துகளில் ஒன்றை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வோம்: மனிதர்கள் இறைவனை அணுகும் வெளிப்புற வடிவங்களால் தெய்வீகம் கட்டுப்படுத்தப்படுவதில்லை.
“உலகச் செல்வத்தைப் பெறுவதால் என்ன பயன், ஆன்மாவையே இழந்துவிட்டால்?” என்ற ஆழமான கருத்தை இயேசு கிறிஸ்து போதித்தார்.”
மாணவர்கள் அமைதியாகினர்.
சாரா:
“ஆன்மா என்றால் என்ன, ஐயா?”
ஆசிரியர்:
“ஒவ்வொரு உயிரினத்திற்குள்ளும் இருக்கும் உயிருள்ள ஆன்மிக உணர்வே ஆன்மா—அதாவது உணர்வுடைய நித்திய ஆத்மா. அது பரமப் படைப்பாளியான இறைவனிடமிருந்து தோன்றியது.
“எனவே, வழிபாட்டின் வெளிப்புற வடிவம் வெறுப்புக்கும் பிரிவினைக்கும் காரணமாக மாறக்கூடாது.”
சாம்:
“அப்படியானால் பக்தியில் ஏன் இவ்வளவு பிரிவுகள் இருக்கின்றன, ஐயா?”
ஆசிரியர்:
“ஏனென்றால் மனிதர்களால் எல்லாவற்றையும் உடனடியாகப் புரிந்துகொள்ள முடியாது!
“ஒரு குழந்தை ஆரம்பப் பள்ளிக்குச் செல்லாமலேயே முனைவர் பட்டம் பெற முடியுமா?”
மாணவர்கள் சிரித்தனர்.
மாணவர்கள்:
“வாவ்! வாவ்!”
ஆசிரியர்:
“ஆன்மிகப் புரிதலும் படிப்படியாக வளர்கிறது.
“நாம் கற்கிறோம், கேள்வி கேட்கிறோம், அனுபவிக்கிறோம்; இறுதியில் புரிந்துகொள்ளத் தொடங்குகிறோம்.”
மேரி:
“என்ன ஒரு அற்புதமான பக்திப் பாடம்!
“அப்படியானால் சீதாபதி குருக்கள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டதற்குக் காரணம், அவர் தகுதியும் அறிவும் கொண்ட, மதிப்பிற்குரிய குருவாக இருந்ததுதானே?”
ஆசிரியர்:
“மிகவும் சரி, என் அன்பான கிரேட் ஹார்ட்ஸ்.”
சாரா:
“அப்படியென்றால், ஆன்மிக ஆசிரியரைத் தேர்ந்தெடுப்பது உணவகத்தில் உணவைத் தேர்ந்தெடுப்பது போல அல்லவா?”

“ஆன்மிக மரபுக்கு அறிவு, தகுதி, ஒழுக்கம், நல்ல பண்பு மற்றும் பக்தி தேவை.
“அதுவே மனித உணர்வை பரம்பொருளை நோக்கி உயர்த்தும் உயர்ந்த யோகப் பாதைகளில் ஒன்றாகும்.”
பழைய குடும்பப் புகைப்படங்களை மாணவர்கள் மீண்டும் பார்த்தனர். அமைதியான நூலகத்தில் சந்தனத்தின் நறுமணம் மெதுவாக நிலைத்திருந்தது.
சாம்:
“ஆதாரம், ஐயா?”
ஆசிரியர்:
“கந்தரைப் போலவே முகத் தோற்றம் கொண்ட எனது சகோதரர்களில் ஒருவருடைய புகைப்படத்தை நான் உங்களுக்குக் காட்ட முடியும்.”
சாரா:
“அதே புகைப்படத்தையா காட்டப் போகிறீர்கள்?”
ஆசிரியர்:
“இல்லை.
“அந்தச் சகோதரர் சபாபதிப்பிள்ளையைப் போன்ற தோற்றம் கொண்டவர்—அவர் இளைய சகோதரர்களில் ஒருவர்.
“நான் குறிப்பிடுவது மூத்த சகோதரரின் புகைப்படம்.”
மேரி:
“அவருடைய மனைவியுடன் இருக்கும் புகைப்படத்தையும் எங்களுக்குக் காட்ட முடியுமா, ஐயா? 🙏”

அந்தப் பழைய தலைமுறையின் முகங்கள் வார்த்தைகள் இல்லாமலேயே பேசுவது போலத் தோன்றின. மாணவர்கள் புகைப்படத்தை நெருக்கமாகப் பார்த்தனர். ஆசிரியர் அந்த மனிதர்கள், அந்த இடம், அந்தக் கோயில் மற்றும் அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையை வடிவமைத்த ஆன்மிக மரபுகளைப் பற்றி மெதுவாக விளக்கினார்.
ஆசிரியர்:
“இதனால்தான் நமது குடும்ப மரம் என்பது வெறும் பெயர்களும் தேதிகளும் கொண்ட பட்டியல் அல்ல.
“இது ஒரு உயிரோட்டமுள்ள கதை.
“நமது முன்னோர்களின் முகங்களை நாம் பார்க்கலாம்;
தலைமுறைகளைக் கடந்து வந்த கதைகளை கேட்கலாம்;
பழைய புகைப்படங்களையும் ஆவணங்களையும் தொட்டுப் பார்க்கலாம்;
பக்தியுடன் தொடர்புடைய சந்தனம் மற்றும் மலர்களின் நறுமணத்தை நுகரலாம்;
மேலும் அன்புடன் இறைவனுக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்கப்பட்ட பிரசாதத்தை சுவைக்கலாம்.
“ஐம்புலன்களும் கற்றலில் பங்கேற்கும்போது, வரலாறு உயிர் பெறுகிறது.
“அறிவுடன் பக்தி இணையும் போது, குடும்ப மரம் என்பது வெறும் வம்ச வரலாறு அல்ல—நாம் யார் என்பதைப் புரிந்துகொள்ளும் ஆன்மிகப் பயணமாக மாறுகிறது.”

« Souvenez-vous : Kantharmadam est le nom d’un lieu. C’est un nom propre, le nom de la localité.
« Les enseignements sacrés qu’il expliquait provenaient de la tradition védique et puranique, notamment du Kandha Puranam, consacré aux récits du Seigneur Murugan. »
Les élèves écoutèrent attentivement. Seul le doux tic-tac de l’horloge de la bibliothèque rompait le silence.
Meera :

Professeur :
« Une question fascinante, Meera.
« Acceptons l’un des plus grands principes spirituels : le Divin ne se limite pas aux formes extérieures par lesquelles les êtres humains cherchent à L’approcher.
« Jésus-Christ a enseigné une pensée profondément spirituelle : à quoi sert-il de gagner le monde entier si l’on perd son âme ? »
Les élèves devinrent silencieux.
Sarah :
« Qu’est-ce que l’âme, monsieur ? »
Professeur :
« L’âme est l’essence spirituelle vivante qui se trouve en chaque être vivant — le soi conscient et éternel, issu du Créateur Suprême.
« Ainsi, les formes extérieures du culte ne devraient jamais devenir une raison de haine ou de division. »
Sam :
« Alors pourquoi existe-t-il autant de divisions dans la dévotion, monsieur ? »
Professeur :
« Parce que nous, les êtres humains, ne pouvons pas tout comprendre immédiatement !
« Peut-on demander à un enfant d’obtenir un doctorat avant même d’avoir fréquenté l’école primaire ? »
Les élèves éclatèrent de rire.
Les élèves :
« Waouh ! Waouh ! »
Professeur :
« La compréhension spirituelle aussi se développe progressivement.
« Nous apprenons, nous posons des questions, nous faisons des expériences, puis peu à peu nous commençons à comprendre. »
Mary :
« Quelle merveilleuse leçon de dévotion !
« Donc, Seethapathy Gurukal a été choisi parce qu’il était un prêtre qualifié, compétent et respecté ? »
Professeur :
« Exactement, mes chers Great Hearts. »
Sarah :
« Alors, vous voulez dire que choisir un guide spirituel n’est pas comme choisir un plat dans un restaurant ? »

Professeur :
« Ha… ha… Exactement !
« Ce n’est pas simplement : “J’aime celui-ci, alors je vais le prendre !”
« Une tradition spirituelle demande de la connaissance, des qualifications, de la discipline, de la bonne conduite et de la dévotion.
« C’est l’une des voies les plus élevées du Yoga, celle qui élève la conscience individuelle vers le Suprême. »
Le parfum du bois de santal semblait flotter doucement dans la bibliothèque tandis que les élèves regardaient de nouveau les anciennes photographies familiales.
Sam :
« Une preuve, monsieur ? »
Professeur :
« Je peux vous montrer la photographie de l’un de mes frères, dont les traits ressemblent remarquablement à ceux de Kanthar. »
Sarah :
« Allez-vous partager cette même photographie ? »
Professeur :
« Non.
« Ce frère ressemblait davantage à Sapapathipillai, l’un des frères plus jeunes.
« La photographie dont je parle est celle de l’aîné. »
Mary :
« Pourriez-vous nous montrer une photographie de lui avec son épouse, s’il vous plaît ? 🙏 »
Professeur :
« Certainement ! »
Il sortit délicatement l’ancienne photographie de la collection familiale.
Pendant un instant, tout le monde resta silencieux.
Les visages d’une génération passée semblaient parler sans prononcer un seul mot. Les élèves observèrent attentivement la photographie tandis que le professeur expliquait doucement les liens entre ces personnes, ce lieu, le temple et les traditions spirituelles qui avaient façonné leur vie.
Professeur :
« Voilà pourquoi notre arbre généalogique n’est pas simplement une collection de noms et de dates.
« C’est une histoire vivante.
« Nous pouvons voir les visages de nos ancêtres,
entendre les histoires transmises de génération en génération,
toucher les anciennes photographies et les précieux documents,
sentir le parfum du bois de santal et des fleurs associés à la dévotion,
et même goûter le prasadam sacré offert avec amour au Divin.
« Lorsque nos cinq sens participent à l’apprentissage, l’histoire prend vie.
« Et lorsque la connaissance s’unit à la dévotion, l’arbre généalogique devient bien plus qu’une simple généalogie : il devient un voyage vers la compréhension de qui nous sommes. »
Les élèves sourirent.
Les élèves :
« Certainement, monsieur ! ❤️ »
Professeur :
« Alors poursuivons notre voyage, mes chers élèves.
« Non seulement pour découvrir d’où venaient nos ancêtres, mais aussi pour comprendre quelles valeurs ils portaient avec eux.
« Voilà le véritable trésor caché au cœur de notre arbre généalogique. »
