Episode 231 The Fabulous Family Tree

The Universal University

Politics • Economics • Law • Divine Education

🌅 Good morning, everyone!

The morning sun gently entered the classroom through the open windows.

Golden light rested upon the family-tree pictures on the walls, while a soft breeze carried the fragrance of jasmine and fresh flowers from the garden.

Somewhere outside, birds were singing. 🐦

The gentle ringing of a temple bell could be heard in the distance. 🔔

On the teacher’s table was a small brass oil lamp, glowing peacefully.

The students settled into their seats, enjoying the fresh morning air and the wonderful atmosphere of learning.

“Why Should Citizens Understand Politics?”

Student:

“Hi, sir! Why should citizens understand politics?”

Teacher:

“Oh, I see!

A human being should try to follow the path of virtue, practise spiritual discipline, and take an enthusiastic part in social service—just as Mr S. S. Navaratnam did.”

Student:

“But parents often crave a prosperous future for their children. They don’t necessarily expect them to become generous gentlemen!”

Teacher:

“I understand.

But public life should not simply be about possessing wealth, status, or a kingly lifestyle, as we remember in the story of Mr Morris Minor.

What truly matters is developing a clear and loving intellect and a character that does not deliberately harm others.”

Student:

“That’s brilliant, sir! Sam, you often bring out tremendous truths.”

Teacher:

“Thank you! 🙏”

────────

🛕 A Festival to Remember

Student:

“Did Mr Morris Minor ever take part in temple activities?”

Teacher:

“Ha…ha… not only did he attend temples, but he also participated in taking responsibility for important festivals.”

Student:

“For example?”

Teacher:

“Near Nallur—have you heard of Veeraliamman Kovil?”

Students:

“We have!”

Teacher:

“As a prominent member of the community, he took responsibility for a festival each year, and the celebrations were remembered as extraordinary events.”

The students listened closely.

The fragrance of incense seemed to mingle with the scent of flowers. 🌺

The distant temple bells grew louder in their imagination.

Student:

“Do you still take part in temple prayers while living abroad, sir?”

Teacher:

“Of course! But I participate simply as an ordinary citizen—not as someone extraordinary like Mr S. S. Navaratnam, Thamponna’s famous father. Ha…ha…”

The students laughed.

Teacher:

“There is also a remarkable story from those days when his large body was covered with golden arrows.”

Student:

“Please elaborate, sir!”

Teacher:

“Briefly, okay?

According to the family story, the ritual involved piercing the body with numerous small golden arrows. He then lay upon a long path of hot charcoal, beginning near his palatial home and continuing towards the Nallur temple entrance.”

The classroom became completely silent.

Students:

“Wow!”

Teacher:

“And when he finally reached the temple, the bells rang together—🔔🔔🔔—as devotees welcomed the sacred occasion.”

Student:

“It must have been unbelievably spectacular, sir!”

Teacher:

“Certainly!

It was like Christmas Day—something that can feel impossible to imagine, difficult to explain, and almost impossible to describe.”

Peter:

“So, who were the people surrounding him and supporting the ceremony?”

Teacher:

“Ha…ha…! Some were certainly devotees and supporters. And, according to the family story, there were also people interested in collecting the golden arrows that fell during the ritual.

Would you believe it, Peter?”

😄🙏💘

────────

🌍 The Universal Prayer

Student:

“So, in reality, prayer is universal?

A prayer offered in any country, by people of any colour, caste, or language, can reach the Universal Father?”

Teacher:

“Exactly.

The idea is that the One who resides within everyone is the Absolute Truth.”

The little oil lamp flickered gently.

Teacher:

“That was one of the spiritual ideas Mr Minor taught his elder son, Laxmikanthan.”

Student:

“Really?”

Teacher:

“According to our family story, yes.

When Laxmikanthan was still a child, he innocently asked his father a very auspicious question.”

Student:

“What did he ask?”

Teacher:

“He asked:

‘Dad, who is God?’”

Student:

“At such a young age, he asked such a profound question?”

Teacher:

“Absolutely.

His father answered in a serious tone.”

Student:

“What did he say?”

Teacher:

“He explained:

‘Lord Krishna is the cause of the Universe. He is the Supreme Will behind creation.’”

Renuka:

“When did this conversation take place?”

Teacher:

“Our family account places it during the period when he was Mayor of Jaffna, in 1956.”

Students:

“Wonderful!”

Rudra:

“So obviously the entire prayer reaches the Universal Father, sir. Could you show us evidence?”

Teacher:

“No worries. We should always distinguish between a family recollection and independently documented historical evidence. We can examine the evidence carefully.”

────────

🪔 Knowing the Name of the Originator

Teacher:

“However, there is another spiritual question.

The Universal Father has a Name, just as our own fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers have names.”

Rudra:

“Knowing that Name and expressing gratitude to Him—the Original Originator—is therefore important?”

Teacher:

“Yes.

He is understood as the One who is the cause of the Universe.”

Renuka:

“Is that our purpose as human beings, sir?”

Teacher:

“From the devotional perspective we are studying—yes, one hundred percent.”

The students smiled.

The fragrance of the flowers drifted through the open windows again.

Élève :

« Vraiment ? »

Professeur :

« Selon notre histoire familiale, oui.
