Anyhow, an unexpected shadow of worry disturbed her even in her happy state of mind.

She began to think of their hateful fate which finally opened the gate.

Somehow, the dazzling golden sun seemed to cheer her up by playing hide-and-seek through the wide windows of the big blue bus.

தமிழ்: எப்படியோ, பெரிய நீல பேருந்தின் அகலமான ஜன்னல்கள் வழியே மறைமறை விளையாடிய பிரகாசமான பொன் சூரியன் அவளுக்கு உற்சாகம் கொடுத்தது.

The sun’s radiance was lovingly reflecting its powerful rays on her cheerful cheeks.

தமிழ்: சூரியனின் ஒளி அவளது மகிழ்ச்சியான கன்னங்களில் அன்புடன் பிரதிபலித்தது.

As a result, her astonishing mood got mixed up with many funny thoughts, like pearly rain in a holy sunny day.

Unexpectedly, her enchanting eyes were fixed in the distance!

Her kind mind was miles away, remembering a remarkable incident about her college life.

தமிழ்: அவளது நன்றியுள்ள மனம் கல்லூரி வாழ்க்கையில் நடந்த குறிப்பிடத்தக்க நிகழ்வை நினைவுகூர்ந்து மைல்கள் தொலைவில் இருந்தது.

“Still my eyes are in tears… Oh dear!” she whispered, watching a fearful film.

தமிழ்: “இன்னும் என் கண்களில் கண்ணீர் உள்ளது… அன்பே!” என்று அவள் பயங்கரமான படத்தைப் பார்த்துக்கொண்டே கிசுகிசுத்தாள்.

In fact, there was a dreadful death and then a special speech.

தமிழ்: உண்மையில், ஒரு பயங்கரமான மரணம் நிகழ்ந்தது; அதன் பின் ஒரு சிறப்பான உரை நடந்தது.

There was already a speech competition between two strong groups of college students.

தமிழ்: கல்லூரி மாணவர்களின் இரண்டு வலுவான குழுக்களுக்கு இடையே ஏற்கனவே உரை போட்டி நடந்துகொண்டிருந்தது.

One part was against God, and the other one was for God.

தமிழ்: ஒரு பகுதி கடவுளுக்கு எதிராகவும் மற்றொரு பகுதி கடவுளுக்காகவும் இருந்தது.

Month after month, the complex competitions continued.

தமிழ்: மாதம் மாதமாக அந்த சிக்கலான போட்டிகள் தொடர்ந்தன.

Accidentally, in the middle of their competition, they were talking about dowry.

தமிழ்: தற்செயலாக, அந்தப் போட்டியின் நடுவில் அவர்கள் தரகு (dowry) பற்றி பேசத் தொடங்கினர்.

Dowry, the bride’s family ought to pay a bribe when the bridegroom marries her.

தமிழ்: தரகு என்பது, மணமகனை மணக்கும் போது, மணமகளின் குடும்பம் கொடுக்க வேண்டிய அநியாயமான பரிசாகும்.

One day, Rita, the sister of Sam’s classmate, drank poison and died!

தமிழ்: ஒருநாள், சாமின் வகுப்புத் தோழனின் சகோதரி ரீதா விஷம் குடித்து இறந்துவிட்டாள்!

“Wasn’t it a dreadful death?” she thought.

தமிழ்: “அது ஒரு பயங்கரமான மரணம் அல்லவா?” என்று அவள் நினைத்தாள்.

In addition, Rita was someone gracious. She had plenty of friends.

தமிழ்: அதோடு, ரீதா மிகவும் கனிவானவள்; அவளுக்கு ஏராளமான நண்பர்கள் இருந்தனர்.

Her decently disciplined acts mysteriously multiplied her number of friends.

தமிழ்: அவளது ஒழுங்கான நடத்தை மர்மமாகவே நண்பர்களின் எண்ணிக்கையை அதிகரித்தது.

Following her fatal tragedy, the smiling Sam gave a gracious speech in the college.
